SpaceSoc at the University of Kent is organizing events associated with the eclipse on Friday March 20. Between 8:15 and 10:45 in the morning there will be viewing apparatus (eclipse viewers), information and guided commentary provided by professional astronomers and the Outreach Team from the School of Physical Sciences. The event will take place at the site of the University Observatories located just behind Parkwood at Hothe Court (park at Woodys, follow signs or guides).

In the evening, Stargazing Live will take place at the same site from 6:30 in the evening. Assuming clear skies, the main objects in the sky including Venus, Jupiter, Orion, Cassiopeia and Polaris will be pointed out, and the moons of Jupiter and the galaxy Andromeda seen through the SpaceSoc telescope. The site of the University¹s exciting new Beacon Observatory can also be inspected. All are welcome to both events, no charge. Note that the maximum eclipse of 86% will occur in Canterbury at 9:31 in the morning.

Now, fingers crossed for clear skies!

So, who are we?!

President: Harry Hulatt (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Hi I'm Harry and I'm your president! I'm a final year Film and History of Art student who did a first year in Physics.

My job is to make sure everything runs smoothing, and to make sure you're all happy!

Secretary: Ed Sibley

Treasurer: Ness Charman (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Hello Space-y People! I’m Ness, and I’m your Treasurer for 2013/14. I joined SpaceSoc in my first year and haven’t looked back! It’s been a fantastic way to meet such an amazing group of people! I’m a fourth and final year law student, who knows very little about space, but love being part of SpaceSoc!

I’m responsible for keeping track of the finances of SpaceSoc, to ensure that your membership fees and our Union funding gets spent on the things that we want – making our socials, trips and events the best they can be!
